Kedarkantha located in Govind Pashu Vihar National Park in Uttarkashi district in Uttarakhand, is one of the most popular Winter treks It’s a perfect thrilling summit trek for beginners The snowy wonderland offers glorious 360 degree views of Swargarohini Bandarpoonch Black peak, Ranglana in the Yamunotri and Gangotri ranges The trail has rich flora and fauna including Rhododendron trees, Chir Pine, Black Eagle, Golden Eagle, and many more.
The trek provides a wholesome adventure experience to trekkers including the majestic snow covered landscapes, camping beside the high altitude lake, crossing the thick Oak Pine tree forest, and the dazzling sunrise at the summit.
Trek in Nutshell
The 19 km long trek will be covered in four days. You will trek approximately 5 6 hours every day covering approx 5 km, gaining an altitude of 1500 ft approx daily.
Given its beauty and moderate difficulty level, it is one of the best treks to begin your journey in high altitude trekking.
Best months November to March. The trek remains open for 8 months in the year, except monsoon. Each of these seasons have something very different to offer in terms of terrain and weather. However, winters are the best to trek this trail.
• Pickup from Dehradun (ISBT/Railway Station) by 07:00 AM.
• 9-10 hours’ drive covering 197 Km.
• Altitude – 1950 m / 6398 ft.
• Meals – Dinner.
• Stay – Hotel Homestay at Sankri
• On the way, Purola will be the last ATM point and the last point to have a good mobile connection. Though, BSNL network is available in Sankri but is unstable and erratic.
• In case you need to shop last minute for your trek, the trekking essentials, garments, and equipment are available in Sankri Market.
• Altitude – 2773 m / 9097 ft.
• Trek -4 Km, 5 hours.
• Meals – Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner.
• Stay – Camping beside Juda Ka Taal.
• The trail starts in a beautiful pine forest, just a short 10 minutes’ walk away from the village. Crossing several bridges and zigzag trails through thick woods, you will be reaching your destination for the day.
• The gradient of the trail is easy, with a gradual ascend all the way to Juda Ka Tal campsite.
• The prominent peak that you’ll see throughout the trek is Swargarohini .
• Altitude – 3413 m / 11,197 ft.
• Trek – 4 Km, 3 4 hours.
• Meals – Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner.
• Stay – Camping at Kedarkantha Base Camp.
• The trek gradient will be steeper today crossing through the thick Oak forest. Get thrilled by walking on the freeze ice sheets of Juda Ka Tall.
• At night, the snow clad mountain peaks shine brightly as the moon, and you will clearly see Kedarkantha Peak from your campsite. Enjoy the sight of milk way, have an early dinner, and call the day the next day to start at 03 AM!
• Altitude – 3810 m / 12,500 ft.
• Trek – 13 Km, 7-8 hours.
• Meals – Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner.
• Stay – Sankri.
• Be prepared for a long day which is also going to be the most memorable day for you. Wake up at 3a.m. After having some warm food we move towards summit.Trekking on the zigzag trail, you will make it to the summit after around 3 hours After reaching the summit, you will be rewarded with breath taking views of the Swargarohini and so many himalayan peaks. Absorb the stunning beauty that surrounds you, before heading back to the base Reach the campsite. After breakfast move to Sankri.

• Checkout after breakfast.
• You are expected to reach Dehradun by 7-8 PM. You can plan your return journey accordingly.
